LHS57 - FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

I'm having problems logging on

Problems logging on to the website:

I've noticed that when using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (IE) that the log on process sometime does not work. Here are a couple of work arounds until I can see if there is a permanent fix.

1. When logging on, click the Remember Me check box. This seems to make it work, plus you won't have to log on each time you visit the site.

2. You can also clear out the IE cookies. While in the IE browser, select Tools/Internet Options. Then click the clear cookies button. This will also fix the problem, but it also clears cookies for all other sites you visit. That means you may have to identify yourself on other websites after clearing the cookies.

Why can't I register myself?

Unlike the majority of alumi websites, all of the student information from the 50 Year Reunion Yearbook is in the database. Other sites only have people that register to be on the site. I was worried about someone hi-jacking a student if I allow self-registration. Having a valid email address and a phone number for people should alleviate this.

How secure is my Profile Information?

Your profile information can only be changed by yourself. You must log on to update your information. Viewing of the information is controlled by you also.

You can deny all visitors from viewing your profile - most secure, but defeats one of the reasons for this web site.

You can control whether or not the following information is viewable:
Email address
Location (City & State)
Phone number(s)

Your mailing address information is never displayed.

Can someone find out my password?

Only if you give it to someone. Passwords are secure and only good in combination with a students user name.
Passwords are encrypted in the database. They are never decrypted. Each time you enter password it is encrypted before checking to see if it matches your current password. Even if someone could get your encrypted password and entered it as a log on password, it would be encrypted and not match your existing password.
